David and Mary Annis: Legacy Through Their Will
David and Mary Annis have witnessed the exponential growth of Grand Valley State University and it becoming the West Michigan staple it is today. As an adjunct professor for nine years and the previous Superintendent of Allendale Public Schools, David is quite familiar with the foundation of the university and the importance of education. "We wanted to give back to the continued success of Grand Valley and make an impact for years to come through students who wish to educate the world as teachers."
The Annis' created two scholarships to assist students in the College of Education. The David G. and Mary L. Annis Education Scholarship benefits students desiring to enter the teaching profession, while the David G. and Mary L. Annis Graduate Teacher Certification Scholarship benefits students returning to the College of Education for teaching credentials.
Mary believes strongly in their decision to give to Grand Valley. "Knowing how well Grand Valley takes care of their gifts and how they truly impact the lives of students is the reason we gave to Grand Valley." David and Mary endowed both scholarships in their estate plan, ensuring long term support and commitment to both the scholarships and university.
The Annis' legacy is carried out by their continued support for students who aspire to dedicate their careers to teaching. "It's important to us to know that our modest gift is enough to help someone achieve their goals and educate others. We encourage others to do the same."
